Textile ICH × Digital Art × Immersive Experience

Biography
Bridging textile intangible cultural heritage, digital art, and immersive experiences through cross-disciplinary research and creative practice.
Mi (Misha) Lin is a London-based cross-disciplinary artist and PhD researcher at the Royal College of Art (RCA). Her practice reimagines embodied engagement with Miao embroidery, an indigenous textile-based form of intangible cultural heritage from southwest China, in the context of the postdigital era. Responding to the limitations of conventional museum displays that reduce this living cultural form to static objects, Lin’s work integrates textile thinking as an ontological foundation with hybrid digital–physical installations. These combine projected imagery on digitally printed leather and textile, gesture-responsive generative algorithms, and AI-assisted visual synthesis.
Her ongoing project, Generative Unravelling series, comprises two multisensory installations ∞: Thousand Threads, Thousand Universes and Hand in Thought — Unravelling the Intangible. By transforming intangible heritage into dynamic, participatory experiences, her practice facilitates curiosity, emotional resonance, and cultural translation, bridging tradition and postdigital expression.
Her work has received international media attention, including a solo feature in Aesthetica Magazine. She is the winner of the International Design Awards 2025 and was shortlisted for the V&A × Design Society Design Values Award 2025.

Her practice-based research has been exhibited internationally, with presentations at London Craft Week 2025, the IEEE ICME AIART Gallery 2025 (Nantes, France), and an exhibition at the Shanghai Art Museum in 2026. She also contributed to the Tsinghua Alumni London Art Exhibition as both a curator and a featured artist. She has been invited to deliver talks and contribute to art salons, including a guest lecture at the University of the Arts London.

She holds a BA in Fashion Design from Tsinghua University, where she received the Excellent Graduation Design Award and the Excellent Graduation Thesis Award, and an MPS in Arts and Cultural Management from Pratt Institute.

Her professional experience spans artistic research, project curation, fashion design, and cross-cultural industries. She has worked with organisations including Beijing Poly Art Company Limited and Jason Wu LLC, gaining experience across China, the United States, and the United Kingdom. She also serves as the Business Development Director of the UK Tsinghua Association.
